Engagement Session and Small Wedding Ceremony Overlooking the Hudson River

September 30, 2022

Last week I blogged about Gina + Hyo’s beautiful 2021 wedding, but I actually had the privilege of photographing their first small wedding ceremony just a year prior. Like many 2020 couples, their wedding plans were affected by Covid. They ultimately made the decision to postpone their wedding, but still wanted to get married on their original wedding date. They opted for a very small, outdoor ceremony with only their family present at the Ross Dock Picnic Area in the Palisades Interstate Park. With a beautiful view of the Hudson River and the George Washington Bridge, this was such special ceremony location. Before the ceremony, we actually took about an hour for an engagement session/ bride and groom portraits. Gina and Hyo had a few spots planned and mapped out for their engagement session which allowed us to move around the park pretty quickly. I loved spending this time with them!

During the ceremony, there was a moment where everyone was cracking up. The minister was handing the rings to the bride and groom right before the vows. He had a closed fist (palm facing down) as he handed Gina the ring, but she thought he was giving her a fist bump, haha. I can see how she thought that (it definitely looked like a fist bump), but once she realized it was for the ring, we all laughed for quite a bit. It was just one of the candid moments that helped make this beautiful ceremony feel extra light and joyful.

Believe it or not, all of the photos taken below were captured in a span of just a little over two hours! With proper planning and organization, it is possible to get a variety of photos in a short period of time. The photos below are just a small portion of the full gallery delivered. My hope for you (from someone who documents special, once-in-a-lifetime moments) is that you take into consideration what you value when it comes to these special occasions. What is most important to you when it comes to celebrating life and love? When your values and priorities are in place, it’ll be easier to determine where and how you invest your time and money. This goes for all things, but it is especially true for celebrating a marriage. I’m really passionate about encouraging couples to truly think about what they want their wedding to look like and not just settle for what everyone else is doing or what they they think they should be doing. I love being a a part of authentic, true-to-you celebrations, and this day at the Palisades Interstate Park with Gina & Hyo was no exception 🤍
